Exploration of Dorner Surname Origins Through iGENEA's Accurate DNA Testing

Family name Dorner

The DNA test conducted at iGENEA was a brush with my past, revealing the roots of the Dorner surname, historically tied to Bavaria and associated with the professional class of iron workers or ore miners. Driven by the highly accurate autosomal DNA test, this analysis presented rich, well-researched insights into my lineage.

iGENEA uses a simple buccal swab method, mostly employed by forensic laboratories, healthcare researchers, and genetic genealogists across the globe. It is minimally invasive (as opposed to the blood sample method which can be painfully intrusive). I found it remarkably simple to conduct. The test involves rubbing a swab on the inside of the cheek to gather cells, which are then sent to their labs in a sealed container. The swab packaging was sterile, and the test took me about two minutes in total.

Upon receipt, iGENEA's labs initiate the DNA extraction process for analysis. The nucleic acids are separated from other cell components, respectively, and producing a purified DNA sample. This deoxyribonucleic acid then further runs through a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) for copying and amplifying the DNA segments, producing millions of copies, and thus increasing their ability to identify specific sequences.

In terms of accuracy, iGENEA employs an autosomal DNA test which examines 22 of the 23 pairings of human chromosomes. This type of DNA testing boasts over 99.9% accuracy. That the company subscribes to such a scientific and rigorous methodology definitely allayed any initial skepticism I had.

The results took around eight weeks to arrive – and with it, my understanding of the Dorner surname deepened. Dorner is Germanic in origin, and I now know that it emerged as a surname in the region of Bavaria. The results indicated that the Dorner family were, historically, of the iron worker or ore miner classes. This insight into my ancestral professional history was certainly enlightening.

Taking the iGENEA DNA test has been an enlightening journey, leading me toward new facets of personal understanding. It was thorough and simple, and the results exceeded my expectations in terms of both quality and depth of information.
