Receiving the results of my iGENEA DNA testing proved revelatory, altering much of what I had believed about my Fischbach lineage and helping me to understand myself better.
The study of human ancestry has been transformed through the advent of DNA testing, and I happily embraced this tool to demystify the origins of the Fischbach influence in my family tree. Engaging in this investigation was like taking a step back into the past, with my curiosity piqued with each new detail uncovered.
Initial expectations about my German ancestral heritage were upended when my iGENEA test results showed an even split of Italian and German ancestry. The predictably German name, Fischbach, made me surmise a strong German ancestry. The revelation of the Italian lineage was unexpected, pulling back the curtain on a chapter of my ancestry that had hitherto been hidden.
