Anchoring my focus on the intricacies behind my surname Hackenberg, this genetic examination brought to the forefront compelling scientific evidence of my ancient lineage's geographic breadth, grounded in the heart of Central Europe, specifically the German regions.
As an ardent enthusiast of personal genealogy, my curiosity to understand the origins and depth of my ancestry led me to take the iGENEA DNA test. I hoped to gain insight into the ancient lineage connected to my surname, Hackenberg. The adoption of the iGENEA premium test, known for its meticulous approach utilizing Autosomal DNA (Family Finder), Y-DNA (Fatherline), and mtDNA (Motherline) paved the road for an intensive genetic exploration.
On analysis, the results painted an unsurprisingly intriguing picture. Rooted firmly in the Y-DNA results, the Hackenberg surname echoed its geographic lineage in Central Europe, likely originating from the German regions. The respective haplogroup, leaning heavily towards the R1b designator, further solidifies the connection to Western European ancestry.
Remarkably though, the more extensive R1b haplogroup has an intricate mosaic of subclades, necessitating deeper dives for the accurate pinpointing of our lineage. Our specific branch turned out to be R1b-U106. This subclade is prevalent in Germanic populations, corroborating our Euro-German roots with an overlay of archeological and linguistic data.
